Chalk FarM Plays Temecula Festival

20th anniversary of release of first album

If life is an open road, then Chalk FarM has traveled most of them, leading them to the stage at the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival 20 years after their debut album, “Notwithstanding”

The album was released in 1996, followed by “Three 2”s in 2000 and “Into The Night” in 2012.

The May 21 concert will be different for this tight-knit band. While celebrating their longevity, they will also be playing together for the first time since the 2014 death of their longtime bassist and co-founder Orlando Sims. Sims died after a long battle with cancer.

Bassist Dan Lavery (of the band Tonic) will join veteran Chalk FarM members Michael Duff of Los Angeles, Trace Ritter of Red Lodge, Montana and Toby Scarbrough of Thousand Oaks, CA for this special performance.

“What a special opportunity we have to come together again, be with my brothers,” said Duff, who co-founded Chalk FarM with Sims. “We are family. And for me it will be odd looking over and not seeing Orlando out there, but when we discussed playing this show we knew that if Dan wasn’t going to be with us, this wouldn’t happen.”

Said Scarbrough, “We have a show to put on and we will be ready to do that. But we also realize that this is a chance to relive some of the fun we had, celebrate where we’ve all been and what we have together.”

“The best part is we get to make music again in front of fans who have stayed with us for a long time,” said Ritter.

Chalk FarM will be on the same stage as Jimmy Eat World and Neon Trees, among many other musical acts.

When Chalk FarM released “Notwithstanding” in 1996 its accessible guitar rock drew in a dedicated fan base that has remained over the years. The band had years of successful tours, Billboard magazine-charting singles, MTV airplay and critical acclaim.

When not playing as Chalk FarM, band members continue to be involved in the music industry as producers and performers. In the meantime, Duff said the band is committed to finishing some of the music it has in the works.

21st of Feb 2014It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, bassist extraordinaire, Orlando Sims. We wish you would put in your thoughts and prayers his wife and 3 beautiful children who loved his warmth, spirit and creativity even more than we did.

We were lucky enough to spend some really great times with him playing music and trying to make the crazy existence that we call life a little bit brighter. He was one of the best bass players we have ever heard and if you don't believe us, listen to the bass part of ANY song he played on (Chalk FarM, Debby Holiday, Chris Pierce, etc.). He wasn't flashy and never wanted the recognition, just wanted to play and make whatever song it was sound great. He always seemed the most alive when he was playing, even when his body was very weak, the light shone very bright in his eyes when wielding that bass of his.

So today we lost a real artist. And he would probably want us to take some time out today from the madness that is our daily grind, sit with some friends and loved ones and LISTEN to some great music. Really listen. That's what he did: he listened, he learned and then he played his ass off for the betterment of us all.

We love and will miss him dearly.

LA Band "Chalk FarM" is coming to Cincinnati to support The Dragonfly Foundation and to raise money for the Grant Family.

We are so excited that Chalk FarM, an alternative rock band from Los Angeles that released two albums with major label Columbia Records in the late 90's, is interested in coming to Cincinnati to perform a benefit for Dragonfly and their friends, The Grant Family. The band, which broke up in 2000, has reunited and is performing their first benefit concert together using material from their new album. Chalk FarM was best known for their song Lie On Lie, which was played on MTV and national radio stations after its release. They also appeared as the band playing at the conclusion of the major motion picture, Coyote Ugly. We are currently seeking sponsors to cover equipment and venue costs, if you are interested in becoming a concert sponsor, please click on the Paypal button.
